Every Bean, Sustainably Sourced
Peet's commitment to sustainable coffee farming cannot be topped. Peet's works with the leading sustainability organizations, including Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance, UTZ, and USDA Organic, but also works independently to source only the highest quality beans. Peet's always meets or exceeds the prevailing Fair Trade price when sourcing its premium coffees -- for every bean, not just a select number of lines.
In addition to partnering with organizations like Fair Trade, Peet's also builds direct relationships investing in communities to encourage sustainable lifestyles and practices.
Every Bean, Sustainably Roasted
Peet's opened a brand new facility -- the nation's first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certified coffee roasting plant -- in 2007. All Peet's coffee is roasted from this green facility -- constructed with local materials whenever possible, and designed to maximize the efficient use of energy and water, while minimizing waste.
Some of the energy-efficient features of this facility include a highly-reflective, Energy Star compliant roof, and a design that maximizes the use of natural sunlight. When artificial lighting is required, a computerized system fed by motion detectors and occupancy sensors keeps energy use to a minimum.
Waste is minimized through recycling and the use of roasting byproducts (chaff) in local landscaping. High efficiency irrigation and low-flow faucets drastically reduce water usage.
