Founded in 1963, Coffee Distributing Corp. (CDC) grew from a small office coffee supplier into the NY Metro area’s largest beverage distributor by the 1980s. Led by the Friedman family, CDC joined Compass Group USA’s Canteen Division in 2011, continuing its commitment to innovation and exceptional service while maintaining its family-driven values.
Humble Beginnings.

CDC began in 1963 as a small operation focused on office coffee and customer service. Through direct mail marketing and a reputation for reliability, the business quickly gained traction. By the late 1970s, CDC had expanded its product line, added new equipment options, and was well on its way to becoming one of the NY Metro area’s most trusted refreshment providers.
Expansion, Innovation & Industry Leadership
In the 1980s and 1990s, CDC rapidly expanded its footprint across the NY Metro area, doubling warehouse space and growing its team. Key milestones included the launch of quality private-label offerings, new equipment partnerships, and innovations like the first CDC-exclusive espresso point system. By 1999, CDC had surpassed 200 employees and launched its first website – establishing its role as a trusted refreshment partner for regional businesses.
Modern Tech Meets Workplace Coffee
CDC entered the new millennium with a focus on tech-forward service and expanded offerings. The company added Green Mountain and Keurig to its catalog, enhanced logistics systems, and continued innovating with touchless and single-serve brewers. Acquisitions like Manny’s Coffee and new warehouse expansions positioned CDC as a forward-thinking leader in the evolving office refreshment landscape.
A New Chapter with Compass Group
In 2011, CDC officially became part of Compass Group USA’s Canteen Division. While the partnership brought national reach and new resources, CDC maintained its local leadership, customer-first service, and tight-knit team. With new warehouse operations, a broader product line, and upgraded equipment programs, CDC now serves over 20,000 clients with an unmatched combination of scale and personal care.
