Did you know that we have the Boston Tea Party to thank for our coffee culture? In 1773, when the new tax on tea was imposed, American colonists began drinking brewed coffee as a replacement, and thus the coffee trend began. See how this trend changed and developed in the 243 years since…

Historical Coffee Trends

Those earliest colonists drank a very simple coffee brewed in a traditional fashion using hot water and coffee grounds. Many years later, instant coffee was introduced, quickly followed by gourmet coffee. Gourmet coffee expanded the variety of options into everything from flavored coffee to specialty blends.

Today’s coffee includes lattes, cappuccinos, espressos, and so much more, all of which can be made anywhere with barista-style espresso and cappuccino machines, as well as single-cup brewers featuring a multitude of flavors. There’s a coffee variety and a coffee machine for anyone!

When coffee shops were introduced, they quickly became a huge hit in the U.S. due to their “social factor”. Coffee has often had a part to play in social culture, and now that social environment and experience have extended into the workplace!
